2009 Dolomites Gold Cup
Back to Cortina in September, Luxgallery is the exclusive web media partner
Another prestigious media partnership for Luxgallery. In fact, the luxury web portal will be the exclusive web media partner of the 2009 edition Dolomites Gold Cup, organized by the Promoting Committee of the Belluno Automobile Club, scheduled from 3rd to 6th September 2009, taking place against the enchanting scenario of the Dolomites between Veneto and Trenito-Alto Adige.
The peculiarity of this competition takes shape during the climbing through the hairpin turns of mountain passes located above 2000 metres and the downhills. A race whose charm did not change throughout the years, though now cars do not raise dust clouds anymore, the same clouds that during the ‘50s were “glorious” trademarks of the event.
The 120 participating vehicles, all rigorously built before 1961 and selected by the Promoting Committee, will make everyone revive the history of this race that, from 1947 to 1956, arouse enthusiasm in pilots and audience, marking forever the cars’ panorama and making out of it one of the most aspired to and fascinating international commemorations of mountain tracks.
Much awaited are Sport vehicles such as Ferrari 166 MM, Osca MT4, Maserati A6 GCS, Cisitalia 202, Stanguellini 1100, the Gran Turismo such as Fiat Zagato 8V, Lancia Aprilia, Aurelia B20 and B24, Mercedes Benz 300 SL, Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint, Porsche 356 and, in the Turismo category, the “sedans” such as Fiat 1100, Alfa Romeo 1900 TI, Lancia Appia.
Exclusive novelty of this edition is the official presence, during the weekend, of the Ferrari Club Italia, headquartered in Maranello, which will take part to the event with about 20 interesting historic models.
Cortina d’Ampezzo, unrivalled when it comes to charm and beau monde, will offer to the participants of the Dolomites Gold Cup top-class hospitality and the exceptional parterre on Corso Italia, where on Thursday 3rd September sports and technical tests will take place. To follow, the inauguration dinner, at the Cristallo Palace Hotel & Spa, will be highlighted by the presence of Ruinart, historic maison of champagne. Both the hotel and the champagne maison are exclusive sponsors of the event.
Thanks to the passion uniting the prestigious brands Drumohr and Pineider to the world of historic cars, the staff will provided with the classic gilet razor blade, also named “biscottino” and with an elegant travelling bag and the Florentine maison, purposely realized for the Dolomites Gold Cup, 2009 edition.
The communication and set up of the event will be supported by technical sponsors Soluzione Group and Gruppo Masserdotti, Brescia, whereas Luxgallery will have the exclusive on the web world.
210 km and 25 timed tests are planned for the first stage on Friday, during which the cars will head to Agordo, crossing the Forcella Cibiana and Duran passes; they’ll then go on through the Cereda pass, towards San Martino di Castrozza where lunch will take place. Return to Cortina d’Ampezzo crossing the Rolle and Valles passes, shortly stopping at Canale d’Agordo where there’s the birth house of Pope Luciani, and then continuing towards the climb of the Giau pass.
The audience of tourists and lovers will be introduced with the presentation of vehicles by journalist Savina Confaloni, well-known Sky reporter, Canale Nuvolari. The audience will also have the chance to observe, in the Vip Lounge on Piazza Venezia, the history of sports watches by Tag Heuer, main sponsor of the event, and the latest trends of Mercedes-Benz, car partner of the initiative that is aimed at reviving the history of Cortina d’Ampezzo after the victory of the 1955 edition: Belgian pilot Olivier Gendebien on a 300 SL Ali di Gabbiano.
The second stage of the race, on Saturday, 190 km and 20 timed tests, is conceived to reach, passing through Dobbiaco, Villabassa, and Villa Ottone, Brunico’s historic city centre where the crew will have lunch set within the typical atmosphere of Alto-Adige celebrations. The track on the way back to Cortina will go through S. Vigilio di Marebbe, Val Badia, S. Cassiano, Passo Valparola, Passo Falzarego. The day will be ended with a sports dinner at the Faloria Dew, reachable by cableway.
The program plans for the Trophy Tag Heuer-Barozzi, which originated out of the collaboration between the watchmaking maison and the prestigious Brescia jewellery. This year the prize for the crew that will conquer the first place during the “city circuit” race, will be the chronograph “Grand Carrera calibre 17”. The race will take place on Sunday morning and it’ll involve all crews into a spectacular competition. The second position will be awarded with a “Grand Carrera calibre 6”.
The awards will be handed at the end of the morning, ending this 62nd anniversary, rich in news, which merged the charm of motors, spectacular sceneries and unique style.
This year, the Promoting Committee will promote, among the crews joining the event, the Italian Association Organs Donors. The request was made by the AIDO Trophy Organizing Committee, from Gardone Val Trompia, in the name of a common solidarity.
Deadline for applications: 30th June 2009.
