Auto Union D-Type up for auction
The event by Bonhams is scheduled to run on 14th August in California
One of the stars of the auction by Bonhams, scheduled on 14th August at the Quail Lodge Resort and Golf Club in Carmel, California, will be a rare racing car, whose value amounts to about 9 million dollars.
It is one of the three unique exemplars built by Auto Union 1939 D-Type racer, perfectly functioning, equipped with a V12 supercharged engine and developed in such a way to satisfy a series of international norms regulating the Grand Prix Racing. The vehicle is the only surviving exemplar of this kind of cars.
The car was one of Adolf Hitler’s favourites and it was driven by his friend Hans Stuck during the 1939 Grand Prix.
