Design conquers Milan
From April 22 to 27, 2009 the Salone del Mobile
On April 22, 2009 Milan will open its doors to the Saloni 2009, a not-to-be-missed appointment that will transform this year too the Lombardy capital into the unchallenged capital of world design.
With 1.496 exhibitors, of which 317 are foreigners, the 48th edition of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile (International Furnishing Exhibition) will be a fascinating showcase of future trends, mixing tradition, style, innovation and design.
Alongside this appointment, numerous side activities will take place such as the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, which already came to its 23rd edition, presenting the news for house decoration. Wide range and high-quality of items will be the keypoints of Euroluce (25th edition), that is the International Lighting Exhibition, an exclusive reference point for the Light sector that comes into the fair with 525 exhibitors, of which 174 are foreigners.
Dedicated to light is also the annual Designing Designers, that is the direct result of the collaboration with associations representing lighting designers PLDA and APIL and the International Convention of Design Universities. For the 2009 edition too, the International Furnishing Exhibition will give space to young artists.
In fact, the 12th SaloneSatellite, that is since always a privileged stage for youth creativity, will display funny and stimulating set ups by 702 young artists, of which 420 are foreigners.
If over 220.000 squared metres of the Fair Zone in Rho are ready to host the Saloni 2009, Milan is getting ready to welcome big set ups signed by world designers.
The Fuori Salone 2009, in fact, will be rich of extremely exciting events and set ups that will catch the attention of those involved and many more.
Alongside the commercial offer, Cosmit will also offer a cultural project in collaboration with the Milan Municipality that, for the third time, grants to the Saloni the prestigious exposition venue Palazzo Reale where – from April 22 to June 21 – a great exhibition will be hosted: “Magnificenza e Progetto – cinquecento anni di grandi mobili italiani a confronto” (Magnificence and Project – five hundred years of great Italian furnishing compared) – created by Cristina Acidini and Luigi Settembrini – dedicated to the rediscovery of the origins of made in Italy through a revival of modern and antique furniture.
The Garden of Triennale will host, from April 22, I=N=V=O=C=A=T=I=O=N (I call your image to mind), a luminescent cloud by the English artist Cerith Wyn Evans, made of long twisted neon pipes.
From this 48th edition of the International Furnishing Exhibition 2009 the new protocol agreement will be applied. It was signed by the Mayor of Milan, Extraordinary Government Commissary for the Milan Expo 2015 Letizia Moratti, and the president and managing director of Cosmit Carlo Guglielmi and Manlio Armellini. It is aimed at promoting and planning common initiatives linked to the development of the theme of Expo Milan 2015.
The agreement provides for the commitment by the Fondazione Cosmit Eventi to realize a constant and general activity of communication and promotion of the Expo Milan 2015, aimed at spreading awareness regarding the themes of the event. Through the realization of roving exhibitions at the international level.
