Linde Werdelin Spidolite
At Baselworld 2009 the new collection of luxury watches dedicated to sports
Linde Werdelin’s debut at Baselworld 2009 is marked by the new watches collection Spidolite, sided by the new version of the Land Instrument “The Rock”.
The new movement is presented in collaboration with the master watchmaker Svend Anderson, that livens up the Spidolite skeleton-dial.
Jorn Werdelin, co-founder of the brand together with Morten Linde, comments on their presence at Baselworld: “2009 is the start of a new and exciting year for Linde Werdelin, which foresees the launch of a number of new watches, the use of new materials and the restyling of already existing models. This year is also marked by the beginning of the collaboration between Linde Werdelin and independent watchmakers that will give us the chance to introduce new movements”.
Regarding the development of a new image, Jorn Werdelin commented: “We put a lot of effort in the attempt to create new graphics that could convey the true spirit of Linde Werdelin that is a lively approach to life that has to be lived with enthusiasm and with the willingness to overpass fixed limits”.
The new model inaugurates a new skeleton case in titanium that is provided with an automatic movement in the version with dial – this too with skeleton – created in 1970 by the famous master watchmaker of Danish origins and founder of the AHCI (Accademia Orologiera dei Creatori Indipendenti) Sven Andersen. The new model is purposely modified at the atelier Anderson Geneva for Linde Werdelin.
The case, very light, was thoroughly drilled a part from a narrow frame, without undermining though the strength of the watch. While preserving all the characteristic elements of Linde Werdelin’s watches, Spidolite displays concave angular elements on the case and on the dial parts of it were removed so to allow catching a glimpse of the Svend Andersen’s movement. The zephyr glass on the bottom plate allows to enjoy the sight of the movement with a titanium rotor personalized with the logo LW & AG.
The idea to create an extremely light watch originated from the precise request of a professional climber to Morten Linde before his expedition on Mount Everest. “We wanted to realize a watch that could be even more functional to professional sportsmen without jeopardizing the high level of design”, states Morten Linde, co-founder and Creative Director of Linde Werdelin. He continues: “It took us a couple of years to perfection this technique that is based on the simple idea of removing non-necessary parts. The final outcome is a lighter case featuring a pleasant design”.
The collection provides for three versions: titanium, black titanium DLC with yellow zephyr glass covered with DLC and titanium with skeleton dial. All of them are limited editions, with respectively 222 pieces the first version, 44 pieces the second and 44 the last.
