Puccini according to Woody Allen and Nicola Luisotti
Last celebrations for the end of the 150th anniversary of the master’s birth
It is approaching an end the series of celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Giacomo Puccini’s birth. The important date was at the very centre of numerous events, among which the launch, last June, of the new Gran Teatro all’Aperto di Torre del Lago Puccini, an arena hosting 3200 seats.
But, the events dedicated to the famous master from Tuscany continue even at the 2008 twilight.
The coming Monday, 22 December, the 38th Premio Puccini 2008 will be awarded. To deserve it, Woody Allen, that will be awarded of such prestigious honor in occasion of his concert at the Florence Teatro Comunale. Allen earned the prize for his debut into opera with the only Puccini’s comedy “Gianni Schicchi”, staged last September at the Los Angeles Opera.
On the same day, it will be an Italian abroad to honor the master from Torre del Lago. On December, 22, orchestra director Nicola Luisotti, will conduct “Turandot” at the London Opera House-Covent Garden, that chose another Italian “big”, internationally well-known and already engaged by the Metropolitan, by La Scala and by the Tokyo Symphony Hall.
Luisotti will carry forward the homage to Puccini in 2010, when he’ll conduct “La Fanciulla del West” at the New York Metropolitan Opera, in occasion of the centenary of the opera.
