Renaissance on show in Arezzo
From February 21, masters from the XVth century
A great tribute to the Renaissance Arts is what the exhibition scheduled for the coming February 21, 2009 will be about. It will be hosted by the State Museum of Medieval and Modern Art.
The “Della Robbias” is the title of the event that will see displayed 150 works realized within the first half of the fifteenth century by the two brothers, Luca and Andrea Della Robbia.
The two sculpture-masters are the creators of true masterpieces, made of marble and glazed earthenware; on some levels they were forerunners of the big revolutions brought about by the renaissance only a few decades after. Among all, it is worth recalling the Florence Cathedral Choir, extraordinary example of the achievement of a sense of perspective in sculpture.
Perhaps less known than their contemporary colleagues, such as Filippo Lippi, Donatello, Andrea del Verrocchio, the Della Robbias contributed, with their works, to the beauty of some of the major examples of the Renaissance Arts. In particular, in Florence it is possible to observe their creations of glazed earthenware rings that decorate the Brunelleschi’s Old Sacristy, a true model for the later one by Michelangelo, in San Lorenzo.
The exhibition was thought as an anthological journey with five itinerary suggestions; it will narrate the splendours of the Renaissance in Tuscany through the works of the Della Robbias and of their contemporary fellow-artists.
