Vyrus, a motorcycle to be discovered

When David Rodorigo, soul of the Vyrus Division Motors, recounts that at his company work only three people, all around him there is a feeling of astonishment. Nonetheless it is true. It is the demonstration of what talent, creativity and technique made in Italy can produce merely relying on three people, six shoulders working for the  creation of a product that ranks at the top for performance, technology and aesthetics. It is a motorcycle that David defines so: “permissive, one that anyone could ride”, but that eventually is not really for anyone. Here is why.

What is Vyrus’ philosophy?
Vyrus was conceived with the aim of showing to the world and to ourselves what we could manage to achieve on the market. We started off for fun, we decided to merge into one single road product all those technologies that people had always dreamt their motorcycle to feature. We worked hard so that anyone would create his own motorcycle exactly as wished.

Yours is quite a small industrial reality…
At the factory we are three people, my father, Giuseppe and I. I deal with prototypization and mechanic processing, my father deals with the general managing of the company and Giuseppe takes care of the assembling. It’s been a short time since I first started focusing on marketing and communication too.

Thus your production figures are not too high…

In 2008 we manufactured about twenty motorcycles.

Between Italy and abroad, where do you mostly target your clients?
In Italy we believe we still have a lot to offer, and the Italian market still has a lot to give to us. Nonetheless we also started aiming at the United States and we expanded significantly in Japan.

Are you preaching at the Japanese home?

The Japanese are very inclined to Italian motorcycles. More specifically they love Ducati motors and this helped us; they focus a lot on technical aspects, rather than aesthetics as we Italians do. They are connoisseurs and we are pleased that they appreciate our motorcycles.

Are you proud of taking the made in Italy abroad?
It’s our weapon.

…and carbon is your “verb”…
Ours is the only world motorcycle that was approved with an entire carbon body, including the tank; available, as optional, are also carbon disc brakes, carbon rims, and carbon break pipes. All this is created in autoclave, that is the same kind of technology used in Formula 1.

What kind of motors do you mount on your creations?
We use Ducati motors. We have two kind of motorization: 985 4 valve, 999 racing engine, 154 hp testastretta, and the 1100 ds twin spark that Ducati mounts on the Multistrada; we slightly transform it at the technical level and modify it significantly at the electronic level to then mount it on our own motorcycles.

Performances and prices.
The 4valves weights 152kg, 154 hp, undisclosed speed…The 2valves weights 148kg, 110hp. Basic price is 36750 euros for the 2valves rising to 57-58 thousand euros for the 4valves, depending on arrangement. We can feel confident in saying that the basic price is not our prerogative because people buying this kind of motorcycle decide to give oneself a long lasting present; they buy it with a few arrangements and then personalizes it step by step. All our creations can be personalized “on the way”. Being such a small reality we are ready to make true every wish of our clients, we also provide home assistance and we offer a three-year warranty.

To what extent is internet fundamental for you business strategies?
Since we do not have stores and since we are our main distributors, the internet is for us absolutely essential. The greatest deal of our sales occurred either through friendship or via the internet.
