On 1 December 2009, the Ferrari Coinages by Pininfarina was presented. The art collection realized by Bolaffi is made of six medals, inset within a transparent resin sculpture, each representing a detail of the automobiles that have been the milestones of the Prancing Horse’s history.

Hand made by Italian craftsmen, this exclusive collection, whose limited edition produced 999 pieces, pays tribute to the made in Italy thanks to the merging of art, automobiles and design.

Absolute protagonists of the project, selected and ideated by Pininfarina and Ferrari, are: Ferrari California (2008), 360 Modena (1999), 365 GT4 BB (1973), Dino 206 GT (1967), 400 Superamerica (1961), 250 GT Cabriolet (1960).

“This project sees car design, upon which 80 years of Pininfarina’s history are based, becoming a cult item, collectors’ material – stated Paolo Pininfarina. Ferrari Coinages by Pininfarina becomes the ideal synonym for the encounter of automobile and industrial design. It also embodies the perfect chance to celebrate a collaboration that is still vital: evidence of this is Ferrari 458 Italia, that was awarded the tile Best in Show at the last Frankfurt Salon.”

Dedicated to collectors and fans of the Prancing Horse, every single piece is made of 925 silver, featuring a 35 mm diameter and weighting approximately 30 gr. It takes an entire year to produce one.
The medals are hand carved and refined, whereas the main body is made out of a casting process. By overlapping the single works, it is obtained pyramid-shaped sculpture. Each set is provided with an introduction signed by Paolo Pininfarina and with the copy of the original draft of the vehicle.

Innovation and departure from the past.
These are the keywords upon which the project Ferrari 458 Italia is based. The new berlinetta of the Maranello maison was presented. “We wanted to dedicate to Italy a beautiful car, able to carry our extraordinary performances, featuring an innovation level that never was reached by any Ferraris before – commented Luca di Motezemolo. He continued – A tribute to Italy and to her unique characteristics that turn work, Italian products and the entire country into a synonym with excellence, creativity and quality, all over the world”.

The 458 Italia will be officially presented at the upcoming Frankfurt Show, in September. As for now we know that this Ferrari model represents a great leap forward for the 8-cylinders with mid-rear engine, mainly aimed for sports.
This last entirely innovated arrival at the Prancing Horse Maison presents a great number of news: propeller engine, aerodynamics, handling, instrumentation, man-machine interface and much more.

The car features a new driving setting: state-of-the-art steering wheel and dashboard resulting from the experience in the racing world and especially from the experience of Michael Schumacher.

The design, signed by Pininfarina, offers a compact and slender shape. 453 cm long, 194 cm wide and 121 cm tall. As with every Ferrari, the car’s styling has been very heavily influenced by the requirements for aerodynamic efficiency that is enhanced by an aluminium case which was combined by Marenello’s technicians with different types of alloys and junction and shaping aero-spatial techniques.

The engine too is a true novelty. It is the first V8 direct injection engine, 4.499 cc, mid-rear mounted. It has a very low piston compression height typical of racing engines which contributed to achieving its compression ratio of 12.5:1. Equipped with the traditional flat-plane crankshaft, the engine delivers 570 CV at 9000 rpm and, with an outstanding power output of 127 CV/litre, sets a new benchmark not only for the whole Ferrari range and the history of company, but also for the entire market segment. The engine of the Ferrari 458 Italia is coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, but the car’s major leap is the cutting down of the CO2 emissions. The Ferrari 458 Italia emits 320 g/km of CO2 and has a fuel economy of 13.7 l/100 km in a combined cycle.

Pininfarina made his return to dealing with sport after the great success at the Winter Olympic Games of Turin 2006, for which he projected the torch and the brazier, and after the countless aerodynamic rehearsals undertaken over the last years in his own wind gallery for Formula 1, for motorcycling and for the sportive equipment of world wide famous athletes.

“This care for sport – declares Paolo Pininfarina, Pininfarina Extra’s President and Managing Directir – favoured the cooperation with Panatta Sport, with which we worked throughout all phases from the stylistic research to the three-dimension development of all the details until the realization of the first prototypes. Our design team began from the elements emphasized by the sport – flexibility of the human body, dynamism, to focus then on comfort and on the ease of use. In this new cardio fitness machineries one can recognize the guideline of the Pininfarina’s style: the research for lines purity and for an aesthetic synthesis that, as for cars and daily use objects, always strives to combine beauty and functionality, shape and technology”.

The series Platinum is distinguished by the presence of a 12. 1” integrated Lcd-TFT monitor, allowing the use of a real multimedia device endowed with TV, Tuner system and DVB-T for the digital cable. All the machines are endowed with ventilation for a greater commodity during the training session. The Runner presents an integrated monitor of 12” and an innovative console for the selection of the various functions, with the possibility of wireless monitoring and of hand sensors of the heartbeat.
Peculiar characteristic of Elliptical is the Double Trainer with the possibility of reverse training. The Bike and the Horizontal Bike perfectly simulate the on-road riding and make very easy to all users the use of the machines and immediate access to all training functions.
